What is HAES concept of regular eating ? It has been mentioned in the forum and i am a bit confused. Does it mean eat regardless of hunger. Offer oneself meal at regular times and eat or at least try ? And why ?
When we talk about regular eating we are talking about making food available on a regular and predictable basis. Dieting and disordered eating have typically resulted in people trying not to eat, which alters our bodies trust in us and can silence our bodies signals around hunger and satiation. Regular eating offers our being reassurance that food is available regularly again and that we are committed to being eaters. It helps us heal from the effects of dieting and disordered eating. Eating regularly may not mean that we have the same amount of hunger each time, but that we know food will be available and we can eat to fullness and/or satisfaction. Eating is something we practice on our path to healing.
I also want to share the “definition of normal eating” by Ellyn Satter (linked) I think this definition speaks to the variability and flexibility of what "regular, normal eating" can look like.
