QUESTION: I'm wondering if your advance trainings might help someone achieve MINT MI provider status. I'm a psychologist and have considered pursuing this certification.

DANA’S ANSWER:

Hi Shannon. Apologies for the delayed response. Here is Dana’s feedback on your question...

Right now, there is no MI certification although the MINT organization is looking at that. MINT is the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers. To become a member, you need to complete a Training for Trainers (TNT). There’s more on that here.

To be admitted into a TNT, participants must demonstrate that they are competent with their MI skills so you would need to submit 1-2 recorded sessions for someone within MINT to score for fidelity to MI. The advanced training I’m offering will help you on the path to competency.

Looking forward to seeing you,
Dana

Let us know if you have any other questions. Thank you!

Question:  Would you have any recommendations on other MI trainings to take if you're looking to continue to advance MI skills? Also, I would be interested in more information on what MI certification entails?

Dana’s answer:
Hi Caitlyn.

Dana is starting to think about what an advanced MI online training could look like. And is considering offering in person trainings next year as well.

In the meantime, you can check out Steve Berg-Smith’s trainings. He’s Dana's trainer and mentor.

As for Certification, there’s no such thing as being Certified in MI. MINT (the MI network of trainers) is looking at Certification for MI trainers, but not for MI practitioners. The main motivational interviewing website is here:

Thank you! Hope this helps.
